![]() ![]() So basically, during development, the test drivers and engineering agreed that the arm rest will get in the way when you shift. It's a cool fact that this car was set up almost exclusively by racing drivers. It mostly talks about some of the people involved, duration of the whole project, and some of the tuning changes that resulted to what we have now. Here is my time to shine lol I found this article from the Japanese side of the internet. The volume seller Corolla consoles have armrests and electronic parking brakes at a lower price point- if this were truly cost cutting alone, wouldn't they remove armrests from the volume sellers to save more money? Hopefully Toyota adds this into the 2024+MY vehicles based on criticism from several published reviews now (MT, Matt Farah, etc.). ![]() The insert which forms the front of the console box needs a space/cutout for the manual parking brake boot in the GR, so I am speculating that there was a shortage of these inserts due to lower volume. The only difference appears to be the insert where the GR-Four torque split dial is placed, so I don't think it's an ergonomic issue regarding the shifter.Īlso, interestingly, in the 2023 Corolla hatch/sedan consoles, the cupholders and the parking brake/hold buttons have now been moved over to be commonized with the GR layout (2022 and earlier had the cupholders and buttons centered). This looks nearly identical to the design of the armrest in the Canadian L 6 speed manual, which did not come with the electronic parking brake (and is likely the console used in other base models around the world).
